Monday Memory: Gym animals

By Nick Yates, ISB Communications

Ethan Houston spent a lot of time in the Gym at the International School of Beijing (ISB). The ISB alumnus says, “I loved the Gym, it was super nice. It gave us a good sense of community because it was open to anyone connected with the school, including parents, students and staff. It made us feel like a unit.”

ISB has top-notch facilities and opening them not just to students but to other friends of the school is one of the ways it has become an inspiring international community. Everyone at ISB works to build strong relationships and set high expectations together.

Ethan, who attended ISB from 2014 to 2017, also has fond memories of all the travel opportunities afforded by his enrollment. He says, “I liked the sports trips that we took. You just don’t think about how cool it is to fly to other cities and countries to play JV sports. We’d do homestays in every city with players from the other team, and that was amazing. We’d built a network of other students from those places.”

He remembers a Model UN trip to Qatar, and a 24-hour train journey with Grade 9 classmates. “That really bonded us. It was a cool experience.”

ISB is proud to be celebrating four decades of education services dedicated to Beijing’s international community. This year, everyone is invited to join in celebrating the 40th anniversary through a range of events. Check out  the Celebrating 40 web page for more details.

Past and present students, parents, and staff – please send your photos and memories of ISB to celebrating40@isb.bj.edu.cn for your chance to be featured here and in the Celebrating 40 Exhibition.

ISB is an extraordinary school, made so by a tradition of educational excellence spanning 40 years. Establishing, nurturing, and growing such an exceptional learning community has been and remains intentional; we work hard to build strong relationships so our learning is at its best.
