Inside Elementary classrooms with Back to School Night

By Nick Yates, ISB Communications

On Wednesday night, it was the turn of International School of Beijing (ISB) Elementary School families to go “back to school.” Through Back to School Nights (BTSNs), faculty have given parents a great chance to discover more about what their students are learning and have explained the school’s education philosophy to the ISB and wider community.

BTSN for ISB’s Middle School took place virtually on September 28, and the High School made BTSN videos available to ISB parents earlier this month. ISB Elementary families were offered a menu of live presentations via Microsoft Teams. An introduction to the evening is available here.

While BTSNs took place virtually this year due to Covid-19 and the resulting campus opening restrictions, they still provided parents and teachers with a face-to-face opportunity to discuss objectives for the year ahead and the principles behind a quality modern education. From academics to co-curricular activities to counseling, attendees were briefed on how ISB is an inspiring international community in which students are given plenty of opportunities to explore, serve others, and find their place in the world.

Both the Middle School and Elementary School BTSN saw a good turnout, demonstrating the strong relationship between school and home at ISB as the whole community pursues the best learning. BTSNs set out the rationale behind ISB’s programs – the curriculum is regularly assessed and updated to remain based on best practice in pedagogy, and teachers ensure their classes’ social and emotional well-being.

ISB is an extraordinary school, made so by a tradition of educational excellence spanning 40 years. Establishing, nurturing, and growing such an exceptional learning community has been and remains intentional; we work hard to build strong relationships so our learning is at its best.
